When Using a Registry Cleaner - Beware

There are some who think that the Registry is off limits. They believe that all you have to do is when it get clogged up is go and tweak with the registry keys. Fortunately these are the experts who think they know so much and seen so much that when someone mentions that they use a Registry Cleaner they then recommend that you need to reinstall Windows citing bit-rot.

For the record, it can be dangerous with the wrong Registry Cleaning tools. What I mean that once you clean the registry it tells you that you are not finished and digs up more errors if you run it again just after you ran it the first time. Or worse, it deletes some keys and makes some programs inoperable.

Another tool that has come out is a tool that defragments the Registry. What this does is erases all the empty keys. Trying a tool like this can be downright dangerous because there are keys that are empty for a reason. Thus you may be erasing registry keys that are needed for proper operation of your computer.

Fortunately, Microsoft has provided an undo function for the times that your Registry tools cleans too much. It is called System Restore. Never mind that you can copy your registry in order to restore it. That is nice for most cases. But you can restore your registry using system restore. So there is no need to replace the operating system when there was so much trash and errors. If you get into trouble, you have a way to undo what you did. So before you clean the registry, create a restore point with system restore. Then and only then use your Registry Cleaner. You’ll be glad you did.
