The computer registry can get really complicated if you try to go in and fix things on your own. I am going to show you how to get into the registry so that you can look around and see how to fix a registry file if you so desire to attempt it yourself.

So, to start off with, I want to make sure that if you are going to tamper with your registry, that you export a copy just in case something goes wrong. The registry is the file system for your entire computer. If it gets messed up, there is no turning back unless you have a backup.

The first step is to actually turn on your computer and log onto windows. I know that sounds really simple, but I want to make sure that I cover everything so that you do not get lost.

The next step is to click on Start. This is the menu at the bottom left side of the computer and it will actually say start on the button.

Once you click on start, you want to go up and click on Run. This will bring up a window that you can type in. In that window type in "regedit" (without the quotes) and press Enter on your Keyboard.

You should now be in a window called Registry Editor. If you are not familiar with how the registry works, I suggest that you leave it to the experts when it comes to messing around in here. Feel free to look around, but don't change anything unless you are certain that you know what you are doing.

I am not trying to put anyone down, but I need to stress the importance that if something accidentally gets deleted, it may cause you to lose all of your data and you will have to start over from scratch.

So, expand the windows and have a look around. It goes really deep and you will be able to see all kinds of stuff that may or may not interest you. I wanted to show you this because this is where software comes in to help you fix the registry file of errors.
